20th blog

Well everyone this will be my last blog. English is almost over. The semester is almost over. I'm so glad. This semester was long. I'm cramming everything in. All my essays I have to type. I've hand written all of them. It takes a long time to type. I don't have enough time in the day. But I'm almost done. I have one more essay to type. I'm glad I only have two classes to deal with. This semester was better than last semester. Atleast  the essays were. I liked watching the moives in English class. The sad part about this semester is I lost my best friend. She had to drop out for now. I will miss her dearly. Family comes first. I hope she will be okay. It's going to be different because we have been in the same classes since we started college. We did register the same classes next semseter. But things change. The last day of classes is Monday. I only have one exam to do and that's math. If anyone decides to go to Richard Bland college in Virginia and have to take an English I perfer you register for Isac Sweeney because you will enjoy his class. He makes class very instering and the time goes quick.

19th blog

Last week in English class we watched a movie called "Seven". It's about the seven deadly sins. The seven deadly sins are greed, lust, gluttony, sloth, wrath, envy and pride. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freedom were the two main characters. They were detectives. It was a really good movie. But I wasn't expecting the ending. The movie took three class periods to watch which it was all week. Hey it's better than doing class work. When the movie was over we got into groups and made discussion questions. Each group had to come up with atleast three questions. We had four groups and each group asked their questions. It took the whole class period. For once it would be nice not to count before we get into groups.

So after watching the movie Mr. Sweeney hands us a essay paper. It's our last essay. Atleast it's only 700 words and it's due next week. We have to write about the movie. I'm doing a comparison between the detective styles of Somerset (Morgan Freedom) and Mills (Brad Pitt). We have to have one outside source. I don't think it would be to hard to write. We also have to write 10 blogs. I'm on my 9th blog. I'm almost done blogging. The semester is almost over.

blog 18

I just finished and turn in my 3rd essay for English. Sweeney has my other essay. It would be nice to get it back so I can revise it and type it because I need it for my portfolio at the end of the semester. I would like to see what comments he made about my essay. I only have one more essay to do. The semester is almost over. I'm so glad. This semester was long and stressful. My other subject I'm taking is math and it makes my brain hurt. English is not that bad. But writing those essays is a killer. I'm so glad I don't need to take another English or Math ever again. All that I've been taken in college is Math and English. It's time to move on.

I haven't been to English class last week because I was sick. Change of weather I guess. I don't like winter. It's to cold. The snow is okay.

I just found out that we have to read "Seven" in English class. It's 171 pages long. Who has time to read it after class and you can't print the pages. What was Sweeney thinking? I never seen or read "Seven" or I'll shall see.

Pumpkin Patch

I only need one outside activity to get an B. You need two outside activities to get an A but you need to due an outside presentation. I don't have time to do things outside of class. The outside activity I did was taking my family to the pumpkin patch at Boulevard Flowers in Colonial Heights VA on Saturday. My friend Tanya and her daughter Kyndal met us there. Everyone got a great big pumpkin except my youngest son because he picked up a really tiny pumpkin. He told me that he would take care of the pumpkin. I don't know how but I didn't tell him that. We rode the hayride. They had two tractors going. The tractors drove us to the pumpkin field. There was a lot of pumpkins. We feed the goats. They had rides but you had to pay to ride. It was expensive. I believe the rides cost about a dollar or more. My youngest son wanted to ride a train they had. He did but the price of it was ridiculous. It was $1.25 or something like that. No adults could ride the rides. It was for the little kids. I thought everything was free except for the pumpkins. If one person from your party could carry and walk a straight line for a few seconds your pumpkins were $15 no matter how many punkins you had. My oldest son carried 5 pumpkins and walked a straight line. He carried some big pumpkins. He couldn't see but he did it.

blog 16

In English class Sweeney handed out our third essay paper. It's supposed to be 1000 words. Three cited sources. Sweeney told me that I could add on my second essay for my third essay. I just got to figure out how to add more words and where to put it and two more cite sources. A least I only need 300 more words. It's a thesis/claim and formulate a paper. I'll be glad when I'm done writing essays.

Last week I finally got my first essay back. I had a few things to correct. It wasn't bad. Now I'm waiting on the second essay. I just hope it don't take as long as the first one I got back. You know I have to type it for my portfolio, Typing isn't bad it just getting feed back from your Professor. When I see a lot of writing on my essay I got scared and frustrated all at the same time because I have more work to do. We only have two more months left until the semester ends and I don't have to take English ever again. Thank god we don't have a English final. I don't know. I think I rather take a English final than writing essays.

blog 15

I just finished writing my second essay. It was an analytical essay. We needed at least one outside source and citied it. It had to be 700 words. I chose to write about the women in "The Yellow Wallpaper" and Laura in "The Glass Menagerie". They both were obsessed by something. Even the article  I read the author had an obsession. Laura was obsessed by her glass animal sculptures. Every time something bad happen to her she would go to her sculptures. That made her feel safe and wanted. The women in "The Yellow Wallpaper" her obsession with the wallpaper made her go crazy. Everyone is obsessed with something in their lifetime. Some people take medicine because they an illness. Some make it an hobby.

We just had our fall break. It was only two days off but it was nice being off. But I would never go to Virginia beach ever again. To many people and a lot of traffic. It was a very bad experience. It rained the whole time. But the cabin at KOA campground was great. It was 10 mins. away from the beach. In the summer time it would be nice because it looked like they had a lot of activities to do. But I will never go again.

blog 14

All this week in English class we've been watching a movie called "The Glass Menagerie". The story we are also reading is called "The Glass Menagerie". It's about a family living in the 30's. A mother named Amanda, A brother named Tom and a sister named Laura. They live in poverty. The brother is the only one bring home any income. He works in a warehouse and makes about 65 dollars a month. Amanda wants Tom to find his sister Laura a man because she feels Laura is going to alone because she is very shy and not doing anything about her life. Laura is crippled. She walks with a limp. She's in her early 20's. But back than you get married or you had a name for yourself. Tom does bring a man home for Laura. She even knows him from High School. His name is Jim. Laura had a big crush on him in High School. But come to find out he has another lady friend named Betty. Laura was upset. I believe that Amanda the mother is afraid of what her children will become when she dies. I really liked the movie. It was a short movie. The book was the same way. Now we have to write an essay about it. This would be very interesting.

blog 13

I finally finished writing my essay. It took awhile. One essay down three more to go. I wonder what the next essay is going to be. I didn't realize how much I could relate to the character in the story until I started writing. I felt really sorry for the character. I turned in my rough draft. Sweeney my English professor told us he will look over the rough drafts and give them back to us with changes.
English class is going well. Better than last semester. At least I have my best friend Tanya with me in class. Last semester was hard for me because I had to write three argumentative  essays in mla format. My final grade was an B.  I was really surprised because I thought I had failed. I would of been done taking English but the degree I want I had to take English 2. I don't know about you but I would of taking a butt beaten than another English class. I don't like English. It's not the professor. I really like Sweeney. Math is my subject.

The only thing I have to before this semester ends is do an activity outside of class. I still have a couple of months. I'll figure it out.

bolg 12

I finally figured out how to write my character analysis essay. The rough drafted is due Monday, Sept.23. The story I picked is "The Yellow Wallpaper" because the character in the story felt trapped within herself. Battling her own demons to be set free. I'm a mother of three, a wife, a full time job and a part time student. I juggle a lot of stuff. I barely have time to myself. I feel like my body is being pulled every which way. Just like the character in the story. But the difference between me and the character is I haven't snapped yet. I felt really bad for the character at the end of the story because you don't know what happens to her when she locks herself in the room. Her husband tries to get her out but she don't want to come out. I want to believe she battle her own demons because back in the day people didn't understand what was going on with people. They just called them crazy and they really won't crazy.

The rest of the stories we read I couldn't relate to. A lot of stories I didn't understand. I mean I read them. I just couldn't comprehend them. We read seven stories so far.

blog 11

Hello everyone. It's time to start blogging again for English class. We have to post ten blogs and write four essays. The essays have to be 500 words which that's a plus because last semester the essays had to be 1500. Since this English class is intro to literature our essays have to be a character analysis. Which means the short stories we read you should be able to relate to one character and write about how you relate to the character. I've read four short stories so far and the only story I can somewhat relate to is called The Yellow Wallpaper. Basically their was a women and a husband who spent time in a summer home. The women believed that the house was haunted by a women that was trapped in the wallpaper in the nursery. Which in reality she was going through a lot of problems her self  and used the wallpaper as an excuse not realizing she could of being the one in the wallpaper because when living in this summer home she really couldn't go out and do anything. She felt trapped in her own life. At the end of the story she locks herself in the nursery trying to help another women escape from the wallpaper. You never find out what happens next. I don't know if she killed herself or helped herself. I understand where she is coming from to a point because sometimes I feel trapped and all I want to do is escape for awhile. Not all the time. Everyone gets overwhelmed from time to time. It's all depends how you handle the situation. Does anyone feel like that sometimes?

10th blog

This will be my last blog for awhile. English was very interesting. But it was better than my last semester English 100A. I enjoy blogging. The grammar schmammar was okay. But I didn't like writing the essays. Writing fifteen hundred words was a lot of words. It was hard writing argumentative essays. I never wrote argumentative essays before. I thought my English Professor was funny. I registered for his next class in the fall. Tanya will be with me again for math and English. I need all the help I can get for English. His next class is intro to Literary. I don't know anything about Literary. I'll see how that goes. I hope he let's us blog again. I didn't like blogging at first but since I've been blogging I got use to it.

I'm almost done writing my last essay. Right now I have fourteen hundred words. My topic is Are teachers being used and underpaid? I only need one hundred more words. I will glad when it's done. Our last day of English class is April 26. It's only two weeks away. This semester went fast.

I hope everyone enjoyed reading my blogs. Sorry it wasn't interesting and exciting like some of the others. It all depends if I have time I might blog from time to time. Take care.

9th blog

I started on my last essay paper. The essay is Education. My topic is Teachers salaries and over crowded class rooms. Teachers believe that they are not getting paid enough. A lot of my research repeats itself. I hope I can come up with fifteen hundred words for the essay. It's the last essay for English. Everything that's required in English class is due on April 26. I hope I can get everything done in time. My second essay is almost done. I just need to do the work citation. I also need to do one more blog and comment on three or four blogs. It's all coming down to the wire. At least we don't have a final exam in English class but I have one in Math class.

The Math final exam is not until the beginning of May. I think I'll be okay with that. Even though my favorite Math Professor is retiring at the end of the semester. When she told Tanya and I we upset but happy for her. We wish her all the luck. I still need to take one more Math class and that's college Algebra. It's going to be very hard without my favorite Math Professor but I was told who to take next semester who kind of follows the same patterns she does. We shall see.

8th blog

I'm alomst done writing my 2nd essay for english class. It's about the death penalty. When I was pulling up my research I could not believe how much information I got. I found out there's different kinds of executions, who was the first person for each of the executions. I even found out that some people survived the executions. I believe if something malfunctions during an execution you should be able to be set free from your conviction, but have probation for the rest of your life so you can be monitored or get the help you need. I mean the person was serving the execution and something went wrong and your still breathing. You served your punishment. I believe that's your second chance, so don't screw it up and do something good out of the experience, so you don't end up doing it twice. I am still a believer of the death penalty. A lot of people have mixed emotions about the dearh penalty. If a person does a heinous crime do you think they should be put to death? Like an eye for an eye. Everyone has a choice to do the right things in life. Like live the American dream. I chose to live the American dream and instill good family values to my three boys, so when it's their turn to go out into the real world they can use their better judgement.

7th blog

On Monday March 4, 2013 we has a guest speaker in English class. His name was Mark Harris. He's the President and Ceo of Global Education Skills Alliance. He's an International consultant. He is from Australia. He was talking about taking an intership to Australia or New Zealand. United States, Australia and New Zealand are the founding fathers. There are eight members and four of them are in the United States. The intership consists of short and long term stays. The short term stay is three to six weeks and the long term stay is three to four months. You can stay longer but it all depends on your visa and your employer. When he was done talking about the intership we asked him a lot of questions.

Minimum wage in Australia is $18.50 per hour but the cost of living is high. The drinking age in Australia is eighteen. The weather is really hot. You see koala bears and kangroos walking around town. There are two different kinds of kangroos. One is a grey kangroo which is calm and the other one is called Big Red. Big Red is a boxing kangroo and is found in the outback. Australia has free healthcare. The taxes on good and services is 10 percent which is added on the price. The payroll tax is on a sliding scale. If you make $35,000 for onr year theres no tax. When you file your taxes you get all your money back. The Australians dollar is $1.05 compared to the US dollar. The Australians unemployment is less than five percent. Australians drive on the opposite side of the road. Australia is known for the lucky state and the United States is known for the land of hope. Which I didn't know that. If you are in college and thinking about doing an intership and have any questions about going to Australia please checkout the website at www.gesa-edu.org. But the website won't be available until April 1, 2013. If I didn't have a family I would of considered the long term stay. Like Mark Harris said it's like a once and a lifetime opportunity.

6th blog

I got my grade back from my first essay. I don't think I did good. I got an 82. It's a B. A low B. I got confused on how to do the work citied and how to do a citation on my essay. I also had some grammar issues. English is not my best subject. But I'm really try hard to understand. I'm working on my next essay. I don't think I can put Casey Anthony is my essay because I'm also writing about the Death Penalty. Even though she should have gotten the death penalty. I really want to put her in my essay. I just don't know how to do it. I believe she did kill her daughter and gotten away with murder. I found out that there's a lot of different kinds of executions. The executions were very detailed. So I have a lot of research papers to look over.

The past couple of English classes we've been talking about torture. We even watched a video talking about torture. We didn't see anyone being tortured. Just very opinionated people. We also read two stories about torture. The first story was like a what if kind of thing and the second was like a demonstration about water boarding. Water boarding is getting your hands and feet bound. A cloth bag is put over your head and water is poured over your head. It's almost like your drowning. If torturing someone evil to get valuable information to save thousands of lives. I say go ahead but I don't want to know anything about what happen.

5th blog

Hello everyone. I'm so glad it's Friday. This week has been very busy. I'm getting ready to research for my next essay for English class. The topic is Crime and Punishment. I think my topic is going to be about the Death Penalty and Casey Anthony. I don't know how I'm going to put everything together is my essay but I'll figure it out as I go along.

On Monday my English class had to come up with topics for our next essay. We came up with some good topics. Once we said enough topics our English Professior let the class leave early. We also talked about the Death Penalty. The Professior asked the class how they felt about the Death Penalty. The class was divided. 50% were for it and 50% was againist it. I think heavy topics like the Death Penalty is hard to talk about.

My first grammar schmammar is due today. For anyone who don't know what grammar schmammar is it is a group of grammar topics that we have to research. Than give aleast a 10 minute presentation/video. My Professior keeps encourging the class to do a video but no one has done it yet. My group was given two topics not by choice but by numbering. My first topic is Subject-verb agreement and my second topic is who/whom. That's due on April 15th. Wish me luck.

4th blog

Guess what everyone I'm finished writing my eassy. All I have to do is finish typing it. On Monday and Wednesday we went over our rough drafts in English class. We had to go into small groups and read to each other our rough drafts. I liked doing that because we gave each other some positive feedback. My first group had 4 people including me. Two of them picked the same topic as me but different scenarios and ther one chose fast food and obesity. I thought fast food was a good topic. Than my second group had a lot of different topics. Again of group of 4. There wasn't a whole a lot of people that day. One person wrote about dog fighting and the other one wrote about not having enough fundings for school activities. I thought that was a good one to. I can't remember what the other person wrote about. We gave each other a lot of positive feedback we didn't think about before. The one who wrote about dog fighting she showed us her picture of her dog. I didn't realize that I had a lot of grammar I had to fix. Reading our rough drafts in small groups helped me out a lot.

Happy Valentine's day to everyone. Go out and enjoy yourself even if you don't  have an significant other.

3rd blog

This has been a long week and today is only Thursday. I'm looking forward to the weekend even though I work. I started preparing and writing on my essay. My friend Tanya who is in my English class is helping me with my essay. We are helping each other. I would be lost if it wasn't for her. Our rough draft for our essays are due by February 11th and I just found out we don't have have class Friday. Yeah!!!! I can work more on my essay. I want to have most of the essay done by Sunday. My problem is citing an essay. I'm glad Tanya knows how to write it. My essay is about violent video games and how it effects youth generation.

Yesterday my English Professor wrote sixty topics on the white board about Pop Culture for anyone who don't have any ideas on what to write about on their essay. I was glad to see my class interacting in a positive way instead of a negative way. My class likes to disagree on a lot of things. We started out on the wrong foot and that makes an impression about someone. It's like judging a book by it's cover before you read it. At least I know my class is opinionated and not shy!!!!

2nd blog

I am so glad my English class came to an agreement about our argumentative essays. It took two English classes. I guess it could have been worse. Our three argumentative essays are: 1. Pop Culture. 2. Crime and Punishment. 3. Education. I think I'll be alright with Crime and Punishment and Education. My English Professor can't believe that the class agreed on education. There's so much stuff you can write about.

I'm so glad my friend Tanya is in my English class and math class. She said she understands how to write our essays and she will show me how to write. It's nice to have people your own age in college. I believe that their should be colleges. One for kids getting out of high school and the other college for people that are older and wiser. I started a family first and than went to college. Being older you see things a lot different.

On Wednesday my English class finally got a grade. The class got an A. It was a quiz grade and we discussed the questions in class in small groups. The sad thing about going into groups is I never sit with my friends. But we got an A.

Does anybody have suggestions on what to write about Pop Culture? Once I get started on my first argumentative essay I think I'll be okay.  English is not my best subject. Math is my best subject. Who would of thought writing any kind of essays would be difficult. I also want to thank anybody who has commented on my first blog.

1st blog

This is my first time ever blogging. My English Professor wants us to blog once a week about what we discuss in class or what we read about. So here we go. In class we have discuss two stories that we had to read for homework. The two stories we read were called: The Question of Originally by Jane Hirshfield and Writing and the Threshold Life by Jane Hirshfield. The two stories were about how to start writing, be creative and taking the next step on how to be a good writer. In class we also have to write three essay. Our English Professor gave us nine topics to write about and the class has to come in a agreement because we all have to write about the same topic. Let me tell ya it has not been easy. Every time the class gets close to coming into a agreement someone has to say no. Our topics are Education, Gender, Pop Culture, Race/Ethnicity, Religion, Environment, Family, Sexuality and Crime and Punishment. We finally picked one topic out of three. It took almost thirty minutes. The class is only fifty minutes long. The first topic is Crime and Punishment. If anybody has any ideas what to write about Crime and Punishment please comment on this blog and let me know. I was thinking on writing about Casey Anthony and how I think she was guilty. Do you think she was innocent?
